H0m Scale – Storage & Transport for Metre Gauge Models

H0m scale captures the romance of Swiss Alpine railways at 1:87 – the Rhaetian Railway winding across viaducts, the Bernina Express climbing through snowfields, the MGB threading its way through mountain tunnels. If you collect these models, you already know they deserve better than a cardboard box on a shelf. Feldherr now offers precisely fitted Euroboxes and foam inserts specifically for H0m scale – so your Alpine railway rests safely, whether at home or on the way to your next modular exhibition.

What Is H0m Scale?

H0m (also written H0 metre gauge) is a narrow gauge model railway scale of 1:87 with a track gauge of 12 mm. It represents prototype railways running on 1,000 mm gauge track – most notably the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) and the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB). Compared to standard H0 (16.5 mm), H0m models are slightly narrower and more delicate in appearance, faithfully reflecting the character of Alpine narrow gauge lines. The leading manufacturer in this segment is Bemo Modellbahnen, whose models are renowned for their exceptional level of detail.

Safe Storage for H0m Locomotives and Wagons

H0m vehicles tend to be slimmer and more finely detailed than their standard H0 counterparts. Delicate detailing parts, fragile pantographs, and carefully applied liveries all call for storage that absorbs vibration, keeps out dust, and holds every model firmly in place. That is precisely what our foam inserts are designed to do: precisely cut compartments for upright or horizontal storage, tailored to the dimensions of H0m rolling stock.

  • Upright storage: Ideal for locomotives and wagons with tall superstructures – models stand as they would in a depot.
  • Horizontal storage: A stable, space-saving option, particularly suited to longer train sets.
  • 60×40 cm Euroboxes: Robust, stackable boxes that combine with our H0m inserts to form a complete storage and transport system.

Transport to Modular Exhibitions – Without Compromise

Many H0m enthusiasts are active modular layout builders who regularly transport their stock to exhibitions and club meetings. Our Euroboxes are designed to stack securely and to keep models safe throughout longer journeys. No shifting, no rubbing, no broken details – that is what our high-quality foam delivers, cut to match the precise dimensions of H0m vehicles.

Compatible With All Major H0m Manufacturers

Our inserts are sized to suit the typical vehicle dimensions found across the H0m segment, making them compatible with the leading manufacturers – including Bemo (RhB, MGB, Bernina Railway), Lematec, and others. Whether you run a Ge 4/4, a Bernina railcar, or an RhB freight wagon, every model has a secure place in our compartments.

Frequently Asked Questions About H0m Storage

What is the difference between H0 and H0m?

Both scales use a ratio of 1:87. The difference lies in track gauge: H0 is 16.5 mm (standard gauge), while H0m is 12 mm (metre gauge). H0m models are therefore slightly narrower and more slender. For storage, this matters: standard H0 inserts do not fit H0m models well. Feldherr has developed dedicated inserts specifically for H0m to address this.

Which box size is right for H0m?

We recommend the 60×40 cm Eurobox paired with our H0m foam inserts. This size comfortably accommodates several locomotives or a complete train set, and stacks easily for transport and storage at home.

Can I store H0m models upright and horizontally?

Yes. We offer inserts for both orientations. Upright storage is gentler on pantographs and roof-mounted details. Horizontal storage saves height and works well for wagons without particularly fragile superstructures.

Are Feldherr products suitable for Bemo H0m models?

Yes. Our inserts are dimensioned around the typical vehicle proportions of Bemo H0m rolling stock – the dominant manufacturer in the H0m segment. They are therefore suitable for the vast majority of H0m models currently available on the market.
